This is a photo I took from a Reno SCCA Autocross this past Summer. I had been thinking about how many hours I spent on that strip of tarmac at the Stead airport over the years, both racing and photographing, and how things have changed. It's no longer a local venue for me since I moved but more importantly the venue itself has changed in the wake of the terrible air race crash only a few weeks after this photo was taken. In fact Jimmy Leeward's P-51 Mustang crashed quite close to where this Ford Mustang exhibited a late trajectory adjustment.
The die-hard cone dodgers didn't let the loss of their primary venue get them down though. The final events of the season were held at Mt. Rose ski resort, which turned out to be pretty great. It was a slicker surface than Stead, but fun was still had.
I'm looking forward to meeting a new group of autocrossers this season, and the opportunity to shoot some drifting in the ASR Drift Series. If I can get the permissions I'll be out at the California Rally Series events too. It should be a fun summer!
